Slowing Down Climate Services: Climate Change as a Matter of Concern

چکیده
This article addresses the appropriate place for and design of climate services drawing upon a case study three different forms service delivery in coastal landscape Northern Germany. Each these audiences provides types knowledge about change orientation toward policy support. The three-part includes regional, municipal social service. Drawing this comparative, case-based research, I develop idea ‘slowing down services’, based on ‘slow science manifesto’ introduced by philosopher Isabelle Stengers, postnormal political ecology as suggested Bruno Latour. How does become matter concern? Slowing means following life scientific facts, engaging with public exploring ways to improve democratic place-based decision making. argue that there is an urgent need overcome big add what Stengers calls ‘public intelligence’, integration sense social, cultural, other performative aspects specific landscapes.

Slowing down as an early warning signal for abrupt climate change.
In the Earth's history, periods of relatively stable climate have often been interrupted by sharp transitions to a contrasting state. One explanation for such events of abrupt change is that they happened when the earth system reached a critical tipping point. However, this remains hard to prove for events in the remote past, and it is even more difficult to predict if and when we might reach a...
متن کاملA Tax-Based Approach to Slowing Global Climate Change
In this paper, we discuss the design of carbon dioxide (CO2) taxes at the domestic and international level and the choice of taxes versus a cap-and-trade system. A strong case can be made for taxes on uncertainty, fiscal, and distributional grounds, though this critically hinges on policy specifics and how revenues are used. The efficient near-term tax is at least $5–$20 per ton of CO2 and the ...
متن کاملSlowing down of North Pacific climate variability and its implications for abrupt ecosystem change.
Marine ecosystems are sensitive to stochastic environmental variability, with higher-amplitude, lower-frequency--i.e., "redder"--variability posing a greater threat of triggering large ecosystem changes. Here we show that fluctuations in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) index have slowed down markedly over the observational record (1900-present), as indicated by a robust increase in autoco...
متن کاملIndigenous Lands, Protected Areas, and Slowing Climate Change
Recent climate talks in Copenhagen reaffirmed the crucial role of reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD). Creating and strengthening indigenous lands and other protected areas represents an effective, practical, and immediate REDD strategy that addresses both biodiversity and climate crises at once.
